Sinsal is the Captain of the Guard of Mayla, Princess of Shandal. They and 43 other Shandalan women had escaped devastating tragedy at the hands of the slave-trading Durakees. Apparently, the Shandalan women have a unique biological make-up -- when near a man who is acceptable to them, they exude a pheromone which irresistibly attracts the male of the species. In addition, Shandalan women need regular sex with a male of their choice or their strength will be drained; rape or forced sex does not replenish, but causes the draining to be even worse.
Sinsal, with two others of the group, are sold to Lomar, the Durakee head of a crystal mining operation on a planet called Palathea. How are Sinsal and her companions to find acceptable males while they are held as pleasure slaves? The native people of Palathea are also enslaved to work in the crystal mines. Little does Lomar realize that a revolution led by a man named Falan is growing under his very feet, a revolution that the presence of the Shandalans will ignite!
This is Sinsal's story--as the subtitle indicates, this is the second book in a series. While certain flashbacks could have been clearer if one had read the first book, this book stands alone pretty well. Sinsal and Falan are a likeable and hot couple! The secondary characters are nicely drawn for the amount of time they are "onstage." This is a short novel of 158 pages, but is quite a "Scorcher." There are several very sizzling sex scenes, including multi-partner/group sex scenes. I recommend this novel for a light, fast summer read.
