Jerred is a Saurellian spy, posing as a freighter captain/smuggler. While meeting a contact on an Imperial space station, he sees Giselle, a barmaid, and knows that he must have her. Giselle, on the other hand, is not for sale--until she sees a murder committed, and runs for her life from the murderers. With no money or other resources, Giselle seeks Jerred's help, even though she has to pay with her body to get it.
Once again, we are gifted with a story of Saurellian space! Wylde has created an incredible universe in these books, which offer both science fiction and romance in equal parts. The relationship (and the love scenes) between Jerred and Giselle are deep and emotional, in spite of the fact that both protagonists fight against their feelings. The sex is graphic, but not violent, and is appropriate within the context of the story. The science fiction background is well-developed and believable within the already established universe without being boring. This is the kind of book that I compulsively read within hours of buying it--I just can't let it sit on the "shelf"--and then read again and again--it is that satisfying!
