Sera struggles away from her crashed spacecraft, the only survivor and she is left stranded on an alien planet. She is suffering head injuries and has no memory beyond the present. When a Barbarian riding a horse approaches, Sera is terrified until he collapses unconscious at her feet. She treats his wounds to keep him alive only to discover a severed head in his saddlebags. Then he attempts to rape her as he awakens.
Jerad is returning from a tournament to avenge the death of his mother when a woman falls from the sky. After he goes to her assistance, she performs feats that have been foretold. Although it does not seem possible, he knows that she must be his destiny. Sera resists his efforts of friendship but stays with Jerad because he is her only chance to survive in this hostile world.
Challenge and Fate draw the two together and rip them apart.
The author, Angel Lynn has created a fantastic and believable futuristic society, based on Greek mythology. Sera, the heroine is a realistic character, not wimpy or with Amazon like tendencies, but very human. She often makes unexpected humorous comments about the strange society and surroundings. Although Jerad is a leader in this barbaric world, his stubbornness and compassion (not to mention body and looks) had me hoping that the two would unite.
After a steady beginning, the book becomes quite fast-paced and kept this reader enthralled. I believe that this is the author's first published book and I am very impressed with her page-turning writing style. Readers who enjoy Dara Joy's books should definitely give Angel Lynn a try!
