Faces in the Dark: A Lou Dunlop Mystery

When Jessie approaches Lou in the school cafeteria with her new friend Laura, he isn't happy. He has his nose out of joint because Jessie has been pretty much ignoring him the whole school year. After their adventures last year, he thought she would have at least acted as though he was alive. Laura is another matter. Lou wouldn't mind getting to know her a little bit better. Laura is sweet and pretty and is in need of help. While she is working at Happy Burger Hut Laura is being terrorized by someone who dresses up in Halloween costumes and drives through her drive up window.

Laura's athletic friend and co-worker Samantha, insists that it is not a practical joke and that Laura needs help. Thinking it will be a simple chore; he hides out in the bushes outside the fast food joint. When a guy wearing a clown costume drives up the drive thru lane, Lou tries to catch him. Not willing to give up, Lou and Jessie question Laura and come up with clues to whom this person might be. Their best suspect turns up murdered. Now the case turns serious! Will Jessie and Lou be able to unmask the killer before Laura is the next victim?

Not to long and not to short this well written tale is packed full action and adventure. The characters in this book are so realistic. Jessie and Lou are a great investigating team. Typical teenagers, both are impulsive; given to act before they think. Jessie has nerves of steel and is determined not to let anything stand in her way of solving the case. Lou lets his attraction for Laura get the better of him at times not thinking things out before running head first into trouble. Lou is more cautious than Jessie but trouble seems to find him anyway.

Glen Ebisch is a talented author who has beautifully penned a thrilling mystery that flows smoothly from start to finish. The twists that this book takes keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Faces in the Dark is not a disappointment to Lou Dunlop fans and young adult readers. A true keeper and highly recommended for readers of all ages.
