There is so much work put into this book, the knowledge of the times, the way women were treated and how it truly was a man's world. Sarah is a strong woman trying to survive the only way she can. She yearns to find real love, to have a man truly love her and not one that uses her sexually and leaves. She wants a normal life, a love of her own and happiness for her daughter. Sarah is a good woman dealt a bad hand in life. Stephen is the white knight she dreams of, although at first he is filled with anger the walls crash down and he finds himself in love with this woman. But there are enemies out there that don't want the truth to come out.
