Aurora Devereaux is Fate. Aurora is an employee at Immortality Incorporated where she controls fate and works with people who are in charge of Fear, Death, Chaos, and Time. She's also in love with her boss and head of Immortality Incorporated, Nic Avalon, who is in charge of the aspect of time. Unfortunately, Nic only sees her as an employee and somewhat of a nuisance as she is new to her job as fate. One day while coming in to work, she witnesses an accident involving police officer Craig Tanner. She pushes an emergency button on her digital assistant in order to save Craig, not knowing that this simple action would have drastic consequences. What should have been a great action, saving the life of a man in danger, turns out to have very negative consequences that she finds out in an emergency meeting of Immortality Inc.
Nic is furious with Aurora. She has ignored the rules too many times to count. Sure, she's new at her job, but that's no excuse for giving her free reign as fate. If Craig Tanner would have died as planned, his young wife Beth would have remarried four years later and ended up having a beautiful baby girl who would one day discover the cure for cancer. Nic and Aurora make a deal that she will try to find some way to change fate so that the cure for cancer could still be discovered. If Aurora fails at this job, she will leave Immortality Inc., giving up her own immortality and having all her memories of Nic erased from her brain. It is the thought of never remembering Nic that really scares Aurora, so she has to find a way out of the mess she has inadvertently created. When fellow employees Desire and Chaos get into the mix, a messy situation becomes messier. Will Aurora ever find a way to fix this situation, or will she face a future without Nic? The reader will be breathlessly waiting to find out what happens to Aurora's position as Fate and whether or not Nic can open his heart to the possibilities of a future with Aurora.
Lynn Warren has written a great story! From the first page, I was captivated by the premise of the story, by the idea of a company helping our earthly desires, creating chaos and controlling time. Only For This Time is a romance but it also questions the ideas of fate and whether or not there is a way to change our destiny. Besides the exciting paranormal premise, the love story between Nic and Aurora is wonderful to follow. It's incredibly erotic to watch Nic let down his guard and give in to his desire for Aurora, whom he has wanted for the entire two years she has worked for him. Aurora helps him loosen up and become more spontaneous and when they come together, fireworks go off. Only For This Time is one of the most interesting stories I've read in a long time and I look forward to reading more from Lynn Warren.Reviewed by: Sarah
