Never Too Late
The 40 and 50-ish lovers in Never Too Late are not young or perfect looking. They are realistic men and women whose bodies reflect their age. They've lived life and have suffered disappointment and loneliness, which makes it all the more sweet when they find each other and fall in love. Even better, they share sex hot enough to put young, perfect-looking couples to shame!
My favorite of the collection was Love Your Neighbor. Since he was a teenager, Marsh's family lived next door to Bonnie and her husband. Marsh had always had a crush on the slightly older Bonnie. They see each other again when Marsh comes home for the first time in years. He made a stupid mistake in college and spent several years in prison, so he had avoided visiting home. After years of emotional abuse, Bonnie is finally free, but has a hard time learning to trust again. I really enjoyed this story about a older woman struggling to open herself up again and a world weary ex-con who thinks any decent woman will look down on him.
Christina Rhys does an excellent job at really developing her characters, not an easy feat in short story format. The reader immediately wants to see them find happiness. The circumstances that each couple find themselves in are believable as well. There is enough of a build up to make the sex feel like a natural result.
Never Too Late is a refreshing collection of erotic stories that those of us who have been around a while can relate to. That's not to say there is nothing for younger readers. These tales are so well done that erotic romance fans of all ages will thoroughly enjoy them.
