A Surprise Christmas Proposal
Life should be great for Sophie Harrington. She just turned twenty-five and has always led a rather carefree life; suddenly she needs a job... any job. Her father has put a freeze on her trust fund and her sister wants her to run back home and take care of Daddy. A job as a dog walker seems suitable for a girl with her limited (read lack) of skills or so the employment agency rep seems to think. Sophie will soon find there is nothing simple about this job at all. Gorgeous surgeon and dog owner in need, Gabriel York is angry at the whole world. He is sick and miserable, and nothing seems to please him or even bring a smile to his handsome face. Not that Sophie cares to try....or does she care?
A Surprise Christmas Proposal, a November release from the Harlequin Romance line, is the second book in a two-book set from talented author Liz Fielding about two smart and sassy female friends. It is however a stand-alone story. In no way must you have read the first story to understand or enjoy the second. Sophie plays a minor part in the first story, The Billionaire Takes A Bride, also a release from the Harlequin Romance line and does not appear, but is mentioned, in A Surprise Christmas Proposal. I enjoyed both stories tremendously and reviewed both with a rating of 4 angels.
However, to compare the two, I would have to say I enjoyed this A Surprise Christmas Proposal the most. I loved the witty repartee between the hero and heroine and the sparks that flew between them were a pleasure to behold. The hero in this story is grouchy and crabby and yet you cannot help but feel for him and fall for him. The heroine is the kind of person you would want for a friend: fun, sassy, with a heart big enough to take in every stray and sad person she meets. This is a quick and easy read, just the thing to curl up with on a crisp fall evening by the fire.
