Silver And Gold

When Betty Rose's beloved husband, Tom, dies, she is left with nothing but a blacksmith shop, big home with a mortgage, and a zero bank balance. The only solution to her dilemma is to turn her beautiful dream home into a boarding house. With the help of her Indian friends she opens Betty's Rose Garden, Room and Board. The business is an instant success when she rents all three of her rooms on the first day. Her three boarders are each different and often butt heads, and two of them have secrets that they aren't willing to share.

Ross Culpepper is the first to rent a room in Betty Rose's boarding house. He falls in love with Betty Rose from the first moment he sets eyes on her. But things in his present and past keep him from declaring his love. One secret from his past may keep him from ever giving his heart completely and the secret from his present could cost him his very life.

Silver And Gold starts out with a bang and grabs the reader's attention from the first page, but is unable to carry it throughout the whole book. There are many faucets that are truly unbelievable. The characters are well defined and have wonderful and diverse personalities, however their actions from time to time leave the reader scratching their head in confusion and asking "Now, why would he do that?" For example, Betty Rose is a lovely and heart warming character. This reviewer fell in love with her from the very beginning. She is self assured and independent; starting out on a new business venture to save her home. Suddenly, mid way through the tale she can't seem to make up her mind about a protest march that some ladies of the town has put together. Should she or shouldn't she participate. It seems like she changes her mind three times within two paragraphs.

While the writing style from time to time did detract from the story line, Silver and Gold has a lot of potential and a wonderful plot. Recommended for the delightful story line and the character of Betty Rose. But not for readers who are frusterated with "that would never happen" personalities.
