The Wayward Husband
During the late nineteenth century, Lady Jennifer Hamilton is on a serious mission to find her wayward husband. Taking leave from England and traveling to Paris, France she is attending a masquerade ball in hopes of finding him when she glimpses a masked stranger who makes her body come alive. Going against propriety she meets with the tall man in a darken corner and passion ensues. Little does she know though that the masked man is none other then her husband himself, Cole Hamilton.
Lord Cole Hamilton is shocked to find out that the beautiful woman he’s been romancing under the stars is the gangly creature he abandoned two years ago. The girl he left behind had been slightly boyish and too manipulative for him to think of actually living with her. But the beautiful creature in his arms is definitely making him have second thoughts. It doesn’t help knowing that his best friend is now the lady’s paramour. Jealousy is beginning to eat him alive and if he doesn’t do something soon…he may have to make the lady his wife in reality.
Ms. Campbell has definitely penned an interesting tale of redeemed trust and love. I found the character of Jennifer to be fascinating and very non-conformist to what you would expect of a lady of her period. Yet, the story was slow moving and difficult to read through. I found my interest wavering several times during the story. There were enjoyable moments, just not enough.
