Jaye Zeroun, event planner extraordinaire, has no appointments and has given his staff paid vacation leave for the next two weeks. Deciding to amuse himself by attending the hotel’s Sci-Fi convention, he finds himself standing before a table overflowing with eye-catching Celtic designs, designs similar to the one he drew and had tattooed on his leg. Entranced by a pair of remarkable violet eyes and flowing red hair, he follows the captivating artist, Allyn Keely, only to find that after her seminar presentation she has disappeared. Later that evening Jaye comes across Allyn and cajoles her to tell him a story to help him sleep more comfortable, as he has been plagued by nightmares he does not understand. But there is more to Allyn than meets the eye.
After she lulls him to a quiet slumber Allyn travels to the Otherworld realm. Allyn, a special woman with magical gifts, is one of a few humans to have found their way to this magical land. She has made good friends among the Faerie and she had been asked by two friends, the formerly-human Stephan and Faerie Kelene, to find their lost baby. The child had been sent to the world of the humans for safety until the time he could take his rightful place among the Faerie folk. Derrick, part of the council of Alastriona, Defenders of Mankind in the Otherworld who welcome the rare interactions between the races of Faerie and Mankind, is romantically involved with Jaye’s assistant, Tommy. Derrick agrees with Allyn that Jaye is the lost Halfling and will need to be protected from the Nechtan-Cattee, a faction of radical Faeries who wish to see impure Faerie folk eradicated and all associations with humans stopped. Allyn, attracted to Jaye on many levels, is unsure of what she should do and how Jaye will react when he discovers the truth of his blood and the heritage that awaits him?
Jaye is becoming obsessed by his need to find Allyn. But it is as if she does not exist. Her business card gives him no concrete information, just an e-mail address. As the days pass he finds he cannot let the thoughts and memories of her go. He is surprised by the appearance of Allyn and the mysterious Derrick in his office. Jaye is persuaded to attend a renaissance faire with Tommy, Derrick and Allyn. The minions of the Nechtan-Cattee spy on the group and follow them, attempting to end Jaye’s life through dream magic. The time has come for the telling of the truth. Jaye does not want to believe what he is being told and his disbelief may have put Allyn in danger, a danger she cannot escape from without Jaye’s love.
