Hungry Heart

Life is about to end for Jenny Clarkson, well that is if her brother rescues her. She never thought though, that her knight in shining armor would proposition her into marriage to save her life. Alas, being only minutes away from her own hanging she will do anything to be able to have a life.

Micah Peterman has survived the war, scarred, only to come home to a dead son and a wife who hates him. The scars, though some are seen and some not seen, are a constant remind of the pain and the anguish he has suffered. With his wife and child dead, he had no reason to live but then he saw Jenny Clarkson. The deal was for her to live with him as his wife, housekeeper and cook at his home and that’s it. The deal though did not involve love or sex for that matter. Although just being around Jenny has come to be a pain for Micah because all he wants is to be loved by her. Trouble is he has secrets that can either turn Jenny away or have her love him forever.

Jenny has a second chance to make her life right, only if Micah lends a supporting hand. It is because of him she is not six feet down, but in his farm trying to make his home livable. Though she ran with the wrong crowd, she is headset on making a life with him if he would just let her in his world. She knows he came home from the war a different man, but deep down she knows the fun, loving man he used to be is still there. Question is can she dig that man out before he kills himself.

Ms. Beraru’s imagination and creative writing shines in this heartfelt romance. From the beginning, your heart reaches out to Jenny and her persistence in making Micah want to live again. Here is a man who has seen and felt many harsh things during the war, only to come home to more pain. Losing a wife that never liked him and a son who he barely saw is one thing, but to see the farm he worked for going to waste is something he won’t sit by and let happen. Though he says he only helped Jenny escape her execution by marrying her, she knows deep down that she is more than a housekeeper and a wife to him. She is his savior, an angel, just when he needed it most. These two people from the beginning are right for one another even though Micah denies the love. A great story for not only it’s creative dialogue but the way Ms. Beraru makes these characters life-like and able to feel their emotions. Definitely, recommended to any historical romance lover, who believes in second chances and the power of love.
