The Inheritance
After a ten-year absence, Allison Armstrong found herself back at The Promise. She was heartbroken that it took the death of her Grandfather to make her return to the beautiful, wilderness retreat. She had let her shame and pride keep her away, and neglected to show her Grandfather how much she loved him. Then at the funeral, she came face to face with the man responsible for her long absence.
Heath had changed a lot in the decade since Allison had seen him last. He was now the foreman and camp manager of The Promise. His rugged good looks were enough to send a woman's pulse racing. Yet, all she could see was the defiant teenager who destroyed all of her childhood dreams of love and romance. Allison is devastated when she discovers that her Grandfather left The Promise to both her and Heath. She becomes determined to break the will and send the money grubbing gigolo packing.
Heath shanghais Allison into a memorable canoe trip down the river; equally determined to show her the world that her Grandfather wished for both of them to help preserve. When a mysterious enemy threatens both of their lives, will they be able to come together to save themselves and the land that means so much to them?
This reviewer found it very difficult to like Allison. She seemed to come off as a very spoiled and bratty rich girl throughout most of the book. Heath was a more likable character, only he was screaming for more depth. In this reviewer's opinion, there were not any sparks between these two characters. The descriptive writing in The Inheritance was beautiful. Ms. Macmillan can bring vivid images to your head with her expressive writing. The research for this book was also very evident. The characters just appeared too one dimensional and seemed to overreact to many situations. They were not enough to bring the story to life for this reviewer.
