Sons of Earth and Wind: Book 1
Tears of the Hawk

She is in the park when two men try and kidnap her for the secrets in her head and in her laptop. It was sheer luck that Hawk had been in the vicinity when she was attacked. He saved her and then offered her what comfort he could afterwards. Little did they know that their touching would lead to so much more. All her life Charity has had to deal with the consequences of her gifts. One look at Hawk, one touch by him was all it took for her defenses to crumble. Shields and barriers that had been in place for a decade were suddenly gone; her ‘gifts’ came roaring back to life. Charity has always had empathic skills, but she has never been able to hear anyone’s thoughts until Hawk. Hawk made Charity feel vulnerable and over protected; she had to get away from him.

Hawk was just as affected by Charity. Holding her in his arms had instilled a sense of peace that was overwhelming. Hawk wanted to bask in the feelings Charity inspired for an eternity, but he couldn’t, his past could destroy her. Plus, he couldn’t get involved with her; she was way out of his league. Hawk saw himself as a half-breed; Charity has a PhD in Astrophysics.

Neither Charity nor Hawk can get away from each other as easily as they would like. They are continually thrown together as more attempts are made on Charity’s life. Hawk wants to protect Charity; Charity wants to control her own life. He insists that she follow his orders; she fights him at every turn. Add that to the constant sexual tension between them, and they both feel that something has to give. In an attempt to make Hawk understand, she demonstrates her gifts and the result is almost deadly. Hawk is wary of her even as he longs for her, but when the men after her, are successful in kidnapping her, he must save her even if he doesn’t understand her gifts.

Hawk draws on Charity’s gift and uses his ancestry to strengthen the bond between them. He saves her, but is injured in the process. Charity knows he may not appreciate it, but she uses all that is within her to save him, knowing that it may cost her own life. If they survive, can these two people overcome a lifetime of reserve and caution to build a life together?

Tears of the Hawk is one of the most compelling, remarkable stories I have ever read. This tale is packed with mystery, intrigue and an enchanting love story. Charity’s need to have control of herself and her life, combined with Hawk’s need to protect and guard her makes for some fascinating reading. The love shared between Hawk and Charity is sensual and alluring. Barbara Clark writes an amazing, awesome story. Tears of the Hawk, I couldn’t put it down. I’d give it more than 5 Angels if I could.
