The Bodies Out Back
Old Molly Montgomery had a hidden agenda when she rented part of the house to Phillis Toner. Phillis did not like the idea of having a room mate but the price was right, the area was wonderful, and she needed a place to live. Molly, an older woman, was no where near senile but she had her own idea of how Pat should live. Now Pat comes back early from Europe to find an unwanted room mate the old Aunt allowed in and a mysterious death occurs in the Garden. Was the Murderer really looking for Phillis? All the clues lead up to it. Why did Mrs. Heisler die? Was it the cheating husband whom despised his wife or was it their thirty year old daughter who resented her mother for treating her ‘poor’ father badly? Together, Pat and Phillis try to find out what is really going on and also try to clear their names. Something is going on right under their noses. Can they find out what it is in time? Carl, Phillis’s cop fiancé, does not like Pat from the start. Pure ignorance on his behalf tries to convince Phillis that her new found friend is the murderer but inside she begs to differ.
This story was a very interesting read. The twists and turns were exciting. It just blends well together. The characters are described in detail and are very believable. I believe I liked Molly the best. The old Aunt had an ulterior motive in getting Phillis and Pat to become room mates, she was sneaky and just what you would want an aunt to be. Pat and Phillis become good friends and their bond begins from the start. I look forward to reading more work from Mr. Wright.
