JoJo Hammond is an interior decorator and an aspiring writer. Miles has lived one day at a time since surviving the tragedy of 9/11 at the World Trade Center and the death of his fiancée. Miles is in no way looking for another relationship, but is locked in JoJo’s eyes and feeling desire spring to life after so long denied. Miles feels his life shift and it scares him to death.

Is it really The Love Charm that holds JoJo and Miles together, or passion? Can Miles come back to the living after being buried in his grief for so long? Is JoJo his salvation or his final destruction?

What began for me, as a slow beginning, The Love Charm sprang to life further into the story, as I learned more about JoJo and Miles. This is a compelling tale of a man’s fears taking over his life, being buried in guilt and grief after surviving the tragedy at The World Trade Center on 9/11. Ms. Starr draws the read in with strong emotions, an intriguing storyline and characters whose lives begin again with each other. I enjoyed The Love Charm and the characters; it was an emotional roller-coaster experiencing their passion, fear, love and confusion. Real-life is also depicted accurately and with style in The Love Charm. Not only is the feeling and the fear of 9/11 depicted, but also the power outage that swept across South Eastern Ontario, Canada (my home) and parts of the U.S. I found this to bring the story closer to home and it is done well.

A story of passion, faith, grief and love. The Love Charm might have brought Miles and JoJo together, but Evelyn Starr captured their life, their pain and their hearts on paper splendidly, keeping them together with a passion and love that could not be denied.
