The Bewildering Bequest
Merrill Prescott, a Charleston, South Carolina lawyer
enjoyed Miss Eulalie Bidwell’s company and her friendship. Eulalie was
also a client of Merrill’s and when she passed away, Merrill knew she
would miss her dreadfully, but she never expected her life to change
forever. Eulalie left her fortune of seventy-five million dollars to her
champion Kerry BlueTerrier dog, Psyche Folly, much to the dismay of her
money hungry family. Eulalie made stipulations in her will that Merrill
and Jason Stavros, her friend and contractor, to live together and
oversee to Psyche Folly’s welfare. Merrill can’t understand the changes
to Eulalie’s will since the stipulations were not in the will she made
up for Eulalie. When Merrill meets Jason Stavros, she is instantly
attracted to him and knows that it isn’t a good idea to be in the same
room with him for more than five minutes, let alone live under the same
roof with him. Added to Merrill’s stress is her Grandmother, who is
toting man after man in her direction as the “perfect husbands”. Merrill
isn’t sure how her life became so out of control, nor does she have any
idea how to set it to rights as soon as possible.
Jason Stavros
knows all about rich, society women like Merrill Prescott. He was
married to a shark that ended up taking him for everything he had.
Eulalie saved Jason’s life, giving him a place to call home and she was
more important to him than even family. To Jason’s surprise, Merrill
isn’t the rich, high and mighty socialite he thought she’d be. Merrill
stirs feelings in Jason that he thought he put to rest and living under
the same roof with her proves to be heaven and hell. As he and Merrill
work together to protect Eulalie’s prize pooch from the greedy
relatives, they find out that there is much more to one another than
they first thought. Jason and Merrill soon find themselves front page
news, parents to endless stray dogs, fighting Eulalie’s relatives, and
dealing with Merrill’s Grandmother and the latest husband prospect. And
unbeknownst to Merrill and Jason, they are being thrown together by
Cupid and Venus, Roman God’s, as well as Eulalie’s ghost, who will see
to it that they end up together forever.
J. M. Jeffries writes a
charming and delightfully entertaining tale in The Bewildering Bequest.
The comical Roman God’s, Cupid and Venus, as well as Jupiter, steal the
show and keep Jason, Merrill and the reader on their toes. It is a zany
adventure with these God’s as well as endless laughter. The sexual
tension between Merrill and Jason is steamy and undeniable. They become
endearing to the reader very quickly and have the reader rooting for
them to be together forever. Even the dogs add a comical and endearing
quality to this tale. Their antics and personalities make them as
entertaining as the rest of the cast. Full of sharp and witty dialogue,
a charismatic and unforgettable cast make The Bewildering Bequest a book
to read! Ms. Jeffries brings readers a comical side to the Roman God’s
and does it splendidly. I hope that Ms. Jeffries follows up with more
tales featuring Venus and Cupid soon!
