The Wishing Tree
Grace Marshell was one of five children. While hanging
clothes, a stranger comes by to talk with her pa about a cow. She knew
her life would change because of this stranger. He was scruffy and
looked like an outlaw, which starts to make her question of weather he
came to steal from them? He had such great looking blue eye's she
thought and very handsome. She knew that he would be even better looking
once he cleaned up some. Jake only one reason for coming to Graces
father is to get the money that is owed to him for the purchase of the
cow. Since this was the first news of the cow, Grace was not sure that
her pa could pay for it. Just when things start to seem awry, her father
and Jake strike up a plan that is so unfair to everybody, well
especially to her. Her father told Jake that he could not pay for the
cow but he could send his daughter to work off the price of the cow. Not
only was this terrible for Grace, who starts to think that the cow is
more important to her father than her, to trade her like some piece of
object her ma says no. The only way for her to go is if Grace and Jake
get married. Imagine her own mother to think of them marrying. Grace
could not believe that this was happening to her, did she have no say in
what was happening?
The Wishing Tree was not only a great
story but it had a plot that holds you throughout the end. Grace and
Jake's story is so compelling that this book was hard to put down and
will be a great addition to this reviewer’s keeper shelf. Grace is a
very hard working young women with great morals and a big heart. Jake is
a gruff but lovable hero that you will enjoy! Ms. Snodgrass has
written a book that I have found to be every girl's dreams coming true,
she has great characters that are life like and full of life. The story
was enchanting and made this reviewer not want this book to end.
Hopefully Ms. Snodgrass will write about some of the other
characters in another book, as this reviewer would love to see there
life’s unfold. This reviewer will recommend this book to her friend’s as
a great book to curl up with some tea and read considering that it was a
pleasure to read.
