Playwright, Genera McCanton goes to New York City when her play, A Song for Stephanie, is being produced off-Broadway. She misses her home in Chicago, her routine and the people she normally works with who know her and her passion for what she writes. Working with her friend, Stephan, who is directing the play, doesn’t ease her discomforts any either. Especially when he agrees to hire model, Edward Aldin, for the lead role. Edward’s sister, Judith is the producer of the play and Genera resents the fact that Edward got the role only because it was ‘bought’ for him. She also resents her body’s reaction to Edward and the heat that she feels whenever he is near. She becomes plagued with sleepless nights and endless days of undeniable attraction to Edward.

Edward Aldin carries too much emotional baggage to even consider getting involved with sexy playwright, Genera McCanton. Edward still mourns the loss of his fiancée Tess, who was lost to him on 9/11 and the attacks on the World Trade Center. She causes Edward a lot of frustration and they clash in their stubbornness. While he and Genera butt heads over every little thing, their attraction smolders, catches fire and burns.

Is a relationship between Edward and Genera destined to be a Backstage Affair that has no hope of ever being center stage?

Erica DeQuaya’s first book is wonderful. It is a tumult of emotions throughout this book, I couldn’t put it down once begun and I was ready to read it all again immediately. This is powerful writing, honest emotions and a tale that brings real-life to the stage. Backstage Affair is a story of healing and understanding. Edward is a very endearing character who makes the reader feel so much, I wanted to hold him from the first time we met him until the end. The love scenes were hot and full of real emotions.

Readers will enjoy this wonderful book for great writing, in-depth characters, and the power of love. Erica DeQuaya is an author that I will be looking to read more of, hopefully very soon.
