True Blue Forever
On the day that Jeanna Russell read her poem at the fifth
grade honors program, three boys decided to make her “his” girl. Little
did she know the impact she would have on their lives from that day
forward. The day Jeanna met Mickey Royal in tenth grade she had no clue
he had been one of the ones to hear her poem until he told her. They
were attracted to one another from the first moment Mickey stepped foot
in Mrs. Sutton’s English Class. Could Mickey possibly have a chance with
his competition lurking behind the shadows? Wade Strickland had always
been a part of Jeanna’s life. They had always been close friends; with
Wade living next door until right before Middle School. The first day of
Middle School was when their friendship changed. Wade started trying to
be what his father wanted him to be and in the meantime he managed to
hurt Jeanna. When Mickey walks into Jeanna’s life, Wade decides it is
time to win her back the only way he knows how. Will it be enough or is
it too late? Billy Joe Dubose had been a close friend to Jeanna for most
of her life. He knew he could never be the jock Wade was or even the man
Mickey was, but he would always be a part of Jeanna’s life. He was the
one she turned to when she needed help. Would his friendship be what
would finally make her choose him? For these four young adults life has
a way of throwing curve balls that you never expect. All of them will
have to deal with tragedy, pain, and the uncertainty of their futures.
True Blue Forever is definitely a book worth reading. It is a
story that captures the reader’s imagination and makes them feel the
happiness, sorrow, and hurt of the characters. Jeanna is a character who
must deal with several volatile situations even if she does not
completely understand what is happening. Joyce Sterling Scarbrough
brings her readers into Jeanna’s life and makes you a part of it. She
has a way with words that makes the pain and happiness real to her
readers.
Each of the characters has a very important part in this
story. Without any of the main four characters this book would not be as
remarkable as it is. Every single one of them will have an impact on how
you feel about this book. This is without a doubt a book you will never
forget.
Mrs. Scarbrough has a way with words. The story of these
four young adults has a way of bringing good out of a terrible tragedy.
It also shows that if you have a dream there is a way to achieve it even
if life itself seems to be against it at times. True Blue Forever is
absolutely a book to be added to any “To Be Read” pile.
