Before Night Falls
The Book Nook has been Rachel Marks’ life and livelihood for over a decade. Now, thanks to the bookstore at the new mall, she was out of business, unemployed and on the verge of bankruptcy. At 33, she feels she is too old to start over in life again. She had worked relentlessly to get her degree and make a success of her business, and could not believe she was back to reading the classifieds.
Her life had not been an easy one so far. An alcoholic mother, abandoned by her father, she was shuffled from foster home to foster home never living in a place where she felt secure. Life had thrown her another curve that she must contend with by herself. Her credentials made job-hunting even more difficult. Every application she submitted came back as over-qualified. She was desperate when she walked into Mystique, the hottest club in town, to apply to be a waitress. When Rachel met Devon Carnavorn, she was immediately attracted to him. She had trouble keeping her mind on the interview with visions of hot steamy sex dancing through her head. She was relieved when she got the job, but still disheartened by the fact that she was once more a waitress, dependent on the tips supplied by overly aggressive, drunken customers.
Devon Carnavorn knew that Rachel did not belong on the floor being pawed and mauled by the commoners that frequented his club. She belonged with him, in his bed. As soon as he saw the birthmark on her thigh in the shape of a broken pentagram, he knew that she was meant to be his she-shaey, his blood-mate. She was meant to be Kynn, a vampire race who feeds off sexual energy. He begins his seduction and Rachel finds herself being drawn into a world she believed only existed in the pages of books. Her whole life she has felt out of place and unloved. When Devon offers her the chance to be a part of his world, she becomes afraid. Was Devon a madman? Did he truly believe that he was a vampire? Can she put her very life in the hands of the man she hungers for so deeply? Rachel must learn to let go of her fear and trust the one man who could give her what she has been searching for her whole life, a sense of belonging.
Ms. Jenson has taken the vampire and brought him to new heights. Devon is an extremely erotic character. Together with Rachel, they generate a wonderfully potent sexual energy. Ms. Jenson has created a very imaginative world with deeply emotional characters. The reader is able to experience the hopelessness Rachel feels as she tries to make a living in a world where she not longer fits in. Devon’s craving for his mate is palpable, you can sense the longing he has to be with her. Fans of Jeya Jenson will be swept away with this story and this reader looks forward to reading more from this wonderful author.
