Tempting Fate: Holiday Fantasies - Auld Lang Syne
As the New Year rang in, Jane made her resolutions. She had always been just Plain Jane, even after all these years and all her success she still felt that way. It still hurt to remember that she was the kid from the wrong side of the tracks. Given her state of mind, Jane couldn’t believe that she hasn’t just thrown the class reunion invitation away. With the New Year Jane decided it was time to let go of the past. Jane made her resolutions; she was getting a makeover, going to her class reunion, seduce her high school crush and lose her virginity to him, and finally she was going to get a life.
The first person Jane sees when she arrives at the reunion is Tanner Elliot. Tanner was the class bad boy, the one who rode out of town on his motorcycle and became a navy seal. They had been friends in school, but had lost touch over the years. Jane had never been equipped to handle the way Tanner made her feel and after 5 years, she realized she still couldn’t. When Jane next saw Tanner, he was furious with her. When she had first seen him, she bumped into him and spilled her purse. Tanner was now holding the list of resolutions she had made for the New Year. Tanner was furious with her about her plan to seduce and lose her virginity to Ryan Shipman. It enraged him that Jane was going to waste a ‘precious gift’ on someone like Ryan. So he makes her a deal; if she’s hell bent on losing her virginity, do it with him. Someone who will take care to give her pleasure and be gentle with her, her fist time. Tanner doesn’t expect Jane to take him up on his offer; he expects her to run from him as she always has done. Will Jane decide on the man that never cared anything for her or the man that looks at her as if he truly wants her?
Auld Lang Syne was a short but hot little tale! Jane’s decision to shed her inhibitions was exhilarating and fun to read. Kay Wilde portrays her characters insecurities flawlessly. Jane’s growth in this short story makes for excellent reading.
