After her husband divorces her, California (Callie) Dalton applies for, and gets, a tutoring job in Nevada. Callie thinks her tutoring job will be for a young child, so she wasn't expecting to walk in and see Bethany, a teenage girl, kicking and screaming. Callie also didn't expect her employer to be the best looking man she'd ever laid eyes on.
Callie has told Trevor, and others, that she's a widow. Trevor is expecting an older lady and gets quite a shock when he sees Callie, a beautiful young woman. He keeps reminding himself why he can't get involved with Callie, and why he can never marry and have children. That doesn't stop his body from reacting to her though.
Callie decides to keep the tutoring job, even after finding out that Bethany is known around town as being insane because of the episodes she has. Callie comes to care deeply for Bethany and they form a tight friendship with one another. Bethany isn't the only one Callie has come to care for though. Trevor has found a place in her heart as well. Could it be different with Trevor than it was with Roger? Would Trevor hurt her as Roger had?
Trevor has a reputation for getting involved with Bethany's tutors, but as soon as they find out he isn't willing to marry them and start a family, they leave, hurting Bethany in the process. Can it be different with Callie? Can he put all of his fears aside for the only woman that's ever made him feel the way Callie does?
Janet Mills has you on an emotional roller-coaster ride until the very end! Ms. Mills creates characters so true to life that you can sense the love that Trevor and Callie have for one another and you hold your breath hoping they will realize what they could have together. Sundance is an awesome story!
