Marco's Pride
Marco doesn't want Payton to come back to Italy. It doesn't matter to him that she is bringing their twin daughters with her, Payton's timing couldn't be worse. Payton had left him two years earlier, taking their daughters back to California with her. He never tried to stop her; he just let her go. Marco is to be married in a little over two months…he doesn't want her here!
Payton had sworn never to step foot in Italy again. Desperate, she had no choice. Payton knew Marco blamed her for their girls thinking of him as a stranger. She'd never meant to keep them from him, but it wasn't her fault that his visits to the girls were infrequent and far between. Payton had to come back for her daughters' sake; she had to make certain they had a loving relationship with their father. For Payton knew that Marco would need to be there for them if she couldn't.
Marco refuses to let Payton come between him and his bride-to-be. Yet every time he looks at her, feelings inside him awaken. He notices that Payton isn't the same woman she was when she left two years ago. He feels guilty for noticing her at all, but he can't seem to help it. When Payton finally confides in him just why she came back to Italy, Marco is stunned. He quickly realizes the need to put their differences behind them to provide a united front for their daughters. As Marco and Payton spend time alone together as a family, will they be able to ignore the passion they once felt for one another?
Marco's Pride is a thoroughly enjoyable read. It is a lighthearted story with characters you will quickly come to care for. All through this book I was just waiting for Marco to not be quite so stubborn and for Payton to open her heart, if only a little. Jane Porter writes a realistic, poignant story in Marco's Pride. This was my first book by Jane Porter, but as I completely enjoyed this one, I will definitely look for her other and future titles.
