Derek had not been having an easy time. He's smart enough to realize that one more screw up and his boss would have him pushing papers for the rest of his career. So when a woman, with legs that went on for miles, got behind the wheel of his rented car, he knew this was not going to be good. Reese couldn't believe how gorgeous this man was and she couldn't believe she was sizing up a would-be attacker; he came from out of nowhere and now he wants her car. Reese runs, but not before she inflicts him some bodily harm. Derek can't let the woman out of his sight; she has papers in her possession that an informant meant for him. With those papers, his latest case could be blown wide open; without them, his boss would get his wish.
Reese is stunned when Derek shows up at her hotel room. She's even more stunned and excited by the papers she found in the car; a pharmaceutical company is purposely increasing their prices and not allowing generic brands to be made. With this kind of information she could really jump-start her non-existent career as a reporter. Reese now had to figure out a way to get this hunky FBI agent to give her an exclusive. With the luck he'd been having, Derek should have known getting the papers back from Reese wasn't going to be easy. Reese had four older brothers growing up; compromise is not in her vocabulary. She will get this story, even if she has to stretch the truth or go behind Derek's back to do so. Derek isn't trying to keep Reese in the dark; there are just some things that he can't tell her. Reese doesn't 'want' to understand this. Derek can't keep Reese out of his case and Reese can't get Derek to give her much information, but they're having a blast getting to know each other better. Professionalism out the window, he wanted this woman badly and from the looks she's been giving him, she wants him just as much. Neither of them expected that sex could be fun and wild, as well as tender and sweet. They both know they need to step back or risk heartbreak, yet neither can seem to do it. When this case is finally over, what would become of them?
Smart Mouth is a hilarious and exceptionally well written story. Erin McCarthy brings this book to life with an appealing plot, comical dialog and characters that are fun and likable. Reese and Derek make a combination of a south-mouthed heroine and a less than by the book hero. They're interactions will have readers laughing out loud. I enjoyed this book immensely and can't wait for Erin's next book.
