The Day After Summer
Orion Bar is home after torching bridges on his departure years earlier. He is not home to rebuild those bridges but to make sure a terrible secret is kept and never to see the light of day. Orion meets his first love again since he jilted her at the altar and fate takes over. Even though Orion had a successful career as a country singer and he lived a glittering life in the fast lane, he could not escape the feeling that something was missing in his life. He had tried marriage, but that ended disastrously. Throughout this life he has thought of his first love, but never had the courage to come back home and confront his past. Now Orion has no choice but to return home and take care of his mother's estate.
Dottie has lived with the idea that she had done something to chase the love of her life away and leave her waiting at the altar. She has become the typical old spinster fulfilling her life with her work selling antiques in her home. All this time without Orion she believes she is fulfilled and satisfied with her lot in life. Until…Orion shows up out of the blue and all the emotions she has kept in control boil over and she must know what happened. Why did he leave her? What did she do that he just up and left her at the altar?
The Day After Summer is a tale of two people recapturing feelings and emotions from the past that were never resolved. They each lived their lives as best they could while this emotion they had for each other was buried in the background of their busy lives. But fate has a way of making things happen even when you're planning a different path. Can you really come home after so long? And will things be as they were? Well it was a very interesting and entertaining journey to find out.
This reviewer found this book to be a good read. The first half was a shock for me because Orion is very arrogant in his thoughts, his action speak differently. However, this reviewer initially had a difficult time getting into Orion's psyche and wading through his very arrogance made this reviewer gnash teeth. The plot and the suspense were very well written. The love scenes were so hot they literally scorched my eyes as I read them. Ms. Starr knows how to write suspense, she hooked me from the beginning with the mystery; throughout the book she gives you hints and strings you along so that you seamlessly follow the path of the mystery. The more I read the more I wanted to continue reading. This is a tale of how things can get tangled up when you try to do the right thing. But even fate has a way of making things come about in the correct order.
