Dragon Prime
NOTE: This book is loosely linked to the Legacies series. However, it is a stand alone read and the start of a new series of books by Lora Leigh.
Alyx our hero is a Dragon prime warrior, a Guardian protector of other worlds, and an alpha stud of the first order. He has been searching for his other half for many years and has found a glimmer of her spirit on a primitive planet called Earth. Knowing he is breaking rules by pursuing her he does not care; he has lived for the time she would come back…that time is now and nothing will stand in his way to claim her. Lynn our heroine has created her path as a warrior on earth, protecting others who cannot protect themselves. She and her family run an agency that specializes in unique cases that require unique abilities. She has been given an assignment to protect a woman who has been incapacitated. This case has puzzled her due to the many challenges it has presented her abilities and her organization's.
When an offer for help is extended and accepted by an off-world group called the Guardians, Lynn is again questioning herself as well as her family, in accepting this help. Even knowing they need to take it she is unsettled due to the troubling dreams she has been experiencing for the duration of this assignment. Her people are weakening because of the constant drain to their strength from protecting their client. Reinforcements are a must for both morale and to build her teams flagging strength.
But once Lynn meets Alyx she realizes something is between them; something she has no control over and fears mightily. Her overall goal is to protect her client and she will do whatever she must to ensure the clients safety; enduring Alyx's constant sexual aggression just happens to be one of them. He calls forth a response she cannot seem to help and it drives her crazy. During all this Lynn is continually challenged by an incredibly strong and aggressive, unknown antagonist weaving its way around all their security measures to kill their client.
Will Alyx be able to save Lynn and the mysterious client? Or will Lyn continue to fight the nature of her response to Alyx and constantly challenge him? Hmm…you're definitely going to have to buy this story to find out. I can tell you it is well worth the money and the time.
Oh my lord this book was good. As I started reading it I thought to myself "Lora's been doing this for a while now…let me not be biased on the basis of her previous work" but you know what…It didn't matter because this story is a perfect example of why I absolutely love Ms. Leigh's work. From the very beginning of the story, she draws you in with the hunkalicious alpha male Alyx; a Dragon Prime warrior who is also a Guardian, but because of his love for his mate he breaks all the rules. Come on how many of us love the whole premise of our man breaking the rules for love? Huh? Cause I love it. Ms. Leigh builds on that by showing Alyx as an in-love, but still very secure, male who will tear down the boundaries, laws, and everything else to make sure his mate is safe no matter the consequences. The drama and angst are present throughout this story and it creates a world that you really do not want to end.
The heroine, Lynn, is a kick-butt take-charge woman who has worked hard in building her strength in order to maintain herself in man's world. In this world woman are predominately the weaker sexes. However, in this story she is tough, yet fair and resilient as a woman leader. She creates that strength in her womanhood, which comes across very loudly in this work and in no way diminishes her role as a leader of men.
Constantly challenged by her feelings for Alyx and overworked in protecting her client, she is holding on by threads. Even though Alyx goes out of his way to show her he cares for her and his overall goal is her, she is unsure if he is real and trustworthy. The drama this creates is electrifying and the dialog between these two is magnetic. Because of Lynn's training she does not come across as a doormat or a follower and she continually makes her own decisions even after Alyx advises her.
I found this story to be one of a minor group of stories to date that is an exceptional read. Thank you, Ms. Leigh for this extraordinary piece of fiction.
