Wild Borders

Lani was heading to Arizona for three weeks to do a feature article for the magazine she worked for. She would stay at one of the ranches to obtain a more personal, in depth opinion from the rancher's point of view. Lani contemplated staying in Arizona. As hard as Lani tried not to think of the past, memories of the loss of her family and the five years of emotional abuse from her ex-husband always lingered near the surface. Maybe something new was what she needed.

Rick first noticed Lani in the Chinese restaurant, then again at the airport. As luck would have it, he was seated right next to her. From the first moment that he laid eyes on her, Rick was intrigued. Somehow this perfect stranger had made it past his first line of defense…look, notice, and move on. In the five years since the mother of his son had died, he wasn't interested in chasing women. On the flight from San Francisco to Arizona, Lani worked her way into his heart a little more. From her death grip on the armrest and her pale features, it was obvious she was afraid of flying. What surprised Rick was that he wanted to know why. Rick convinced Lani to have dinner with him. Lani was hesitant but went anyway. Since Lani had first seen Rick, she had started having erotic dreams with him in the lead. When Rick kissed her goodnight, she felt it in her toes.

Lani didn't want to feel any of the emotions that she felt around Rick. After her ex-husband, she had sworn off men. She'd had enough after five years of being told she wasn't good enough, that she was fat compared to all the other wives; her ex-husband did everything in his power to break her. Her only regret was that it had taken her five years to leave him. Around Rick she feels need, desire, and outright lust. When Lani learns that the ranch she will be staying at belongs to Rick and his family, she had one thought; this cannot be good. She wants him and from the way he kissed her, it's obvious he wants her too. However, Lani has vowed to never be vulnerable again. No matter how much Rick makes her feel, she has to stay away from him. Will Rick be able to break through Lani's defenses; will she let herself trust the passion that Rick knows is between them; and just what dangers await them as Lani conducts her interviews?

Cheyenne McCray has written an incredible story in Wild Borders! Lani has been hurt badly in this life and readers will share in her insecurities and fears. At the same time, Lani is experiencing happiness for the first time in a very long time. Rick is a respectable, straightforward, and honest man. He takes satisfaction in giving as much pleasure as he receives. Once I started reading, I didn't stop until 'The End'. Wild Borders is an excellent read! 5 Angels
